ISO 9100/AS9110/AS9120 – Aerospace

Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations

AS9100 is a widely adopted and standardized quality management system for the aerospace industry. It was first released in October, 1999, by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

AS9100 Revision D is due to be released in the Spring of 2016 and replace the present revision (AS9100C)which will remain valid until September of 2018.

AS9100D will fully incorporate the entirety of the 2015 version of ISO 9001, while adding requirements relating to quality and safety. Major aerospace manufacturers and suppliers worldwide require compliance and/or registration to AS9100 as a condition of doing business with them. The AS9101E audit standard applies when auditing for AS9100 compliance.

In addition to the requirements of ISO9001, AS9100:

  • Requires Greater Emphasis on Risk Management
  • Introduces “Special Requirements”
  • Introduces “Critical Items”
  • Requires Measured: Requirements conformance
  • Requires Measured: Delivery performance
  • Adopts Proven Product Development Processes
  • Eliminates “recurring corrective actions”

The AS91XX standards include:

AS9100 QMS – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations
AS9110 QMS – Requirements for Aviation Maintenance Organizations
AS9115 QMS – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations – Deliverable Software
AS9120 QMS – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Distributors

Other standards under various states of development or release by IAQG include:
